Today’s weather has again been excellent. It started unpromisingly, with a fine drizzle first thing, but by noon the sky had cleared and the sun shone continuously. The back of my neck may even have got a little sunburned before I put my Aussie hat on!
Before we slipped our moorings we got some provisions from Loughborough Sainsbury’s, and a few things from Wilko’s (what a fantastic shop!) We also looked round the church, where they were preparing for Palm Sunday.
Once under way it didn’t take long to be out in open country again: looking superb in the sunshine. We whizzed along with the flow, having a lunch of microwaved lasagne with salad (not microwaved) on the move, and were soon turning left on the Trent. Just before the Trent junction we pulled alongside Ayer Rajah, fellow BCF-ers Geoff and Huiwen Bloodworth’s boat. Geoff was in, and we chatted for a few minutes.
We’ve tied up tonight in Shardlow, at the start of the Trent and Mersey. Back on a “proper” canal at last, and narrow locks in the not too distant future. Since Kegworth there’ve been a lot more boats. The Easter holidays are starting for many, and we might now consider ourselves to be in “high season”. Queues at locks? We’ll see.
Tomorrow we’ll make for Burton-on-Trent.
When I tried to get some photos from the camera onto this laptop some wretched Corel Snapfire programme started uploading them without consulting me about it. I'm sure when I managed to put photos on before, it was a different program. This Corel thing crashed after appearing to have uploaded the pics, so now they're still on the camera (I hope) and not on the computer. So no pics today, sorry!

Suggest you download google picasa (free) and upload through there after exporting photos to a folder which resizes them or alternatively look at VSO resizer (also free) which works a treat as well. We use either one or the other of these depending on the strength of the internet.
